Ways We Help
ADOLESCENT HEALTH PROMOTION
Adolescents in Uganda play a key role in improving the health outcomes of the nation. Adolescents are faced with several health concerns including HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, early pregnancy and childbirth, mental illness, substance abuse, violence, malnutrition, and unintentional injuries. Understanding and investing in the promotion of healthy behaviors during adolescence is critical in preventing disease and premature death.
DROWNING PREVENTION
In the past decade, drowning has been the cause of over 2.5 million preventable deaths. African nations, including Uganda, are disproportionately affected by unintentional drowning, with one of the most at-risk groups being children and adolescents. Drowning is preventable through low-cost, collaborative interventions and research involving community engagement and partnerships.
GENDER EQUITY
Societal norms, roles, and perceptions of gender can have a large impact on individual health and well-being. Adolescent girls in Uganda face numerous health threats including HIV infection, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence. Research and evidence-based interventions and policies are needed to shift societal perceptions of Ugandan women and girls and improve their health.
